Frequently Asked Questions About Placenta Preparation Services
What preparation method is used?
There are two options to choose from when it comes to method. You may choose the Traditional Method, which comes from the ancient chinese medicine art of placenta preparation. With this method we will wash and drain your placenta, steam, dehydrate, and encapsulate. Typically with this method your placenta is steamed with Myrrh and Ginger but there is also the option to not have these items added during steaming. With this method your placenta will dehydrate for at least 8 hours at 145 degrees.
The second option is the Raw Start method. With this method your placenta will be washed, drained, and immediately dehydrated with no steaming. This method is not considered safe if the mother was GBS+ because the steaming process is what kills any potential bacteria in the placenta. With this method the placenta is dehydrated for 18-24 hours to an internal temperature of 160 degrees.
What is mother’s broth?
Mothers broth is what is left after the placenta has been steamed. It is the placenta broth in the bottom of the pot and it can be strained and saved in your freezer. You can use pieces of this broth in smoothies or consume it however you choose during your postpartum period.
What is the tincture?
A tincture is a piece of the placenta that is left to steep for a min of six weeks in a strong alcohol solution. This process draws the hormones and nutrients from the placenta. This can later be strained out and diluted to consume by placing drops under your tongue. This tincture can be placed in your freezer after it has finished steeping and will save indefinitely. Many mothers save it with the intention of using it during menopause. If the mother tests positive for GBS it is not considered safe to create a raw tincture but a tincture can still be created from a small amount of powder. This tincture will be available to use in the same way as the raw tincture.
What is a natural placenta print?
Placenta prints are works of art made using the print of the veins and umbilical cord of the placenta. We have chosen to only create natural prints using the blood as ink because dyes, even natural or food base dyes, could have a negative affect on the chemistry of the placenta. We do not want to take this risk.
What is a Healing Placenta Salve?
Placenta salve is a homemade salve created by infusing herbs into balm recipe of oils and beeswax and then infusing the placenta powder into the salve. This salve is wonderful for mom to use on cuts, scrapes, and even on babies diaper rash.
