Helpful Information From Our IBCLCs

Click on the video, link, or handout below as suggested by your IBCLC.

Wound Care Weeks 1-2-3

Most Frenectomy providers use the following protocol for wound care in the first 3 weeks. Follow the protocol taught by your frenectomy provider unless instructed otherwise.

Oral Motor Toys

Around 4-6 months of age babies begin to use their hands and anything in sight to mouth, suck, and chew on. The toys in the handout below are often recommended by Occupational Therapists to enhance oral development, often replacing oral motor exercises previously done by parents.

Wound Care Weeks 4-5-6

Frenectomy wounds continue to transition for about 6 weeks. When instructed to do so by your frenectomy provider or IBCLC, switch to these wound care massages 4 times a day until 6 weeks, and then 1-2 times a day as needed after that. Refer to your IBCLC or frenectomy provider to know when to stop.
