FEES & INSURANCE
We offer 2 options to work with insurance companies. One of these two options will work for 80% of our clients.
OPTION 1: INSURANCE COVERAGE WITH THE LACTATION NETWORK
We contract with The Lactation Network, an organization that helps parents get the breastfeeding support they deserve, covered by their insurance. The Lactation Network is partnered with *many* common insurance plans and guarantees unlimited lactation consultations for clients who are pre-approved at no/low cost to you (the patient/client). A nominal travel fee may apply for home visits and is not billable to insurance. The Lactation Network handles the paperwork and bills your insurance directly; our IBCLCs are not involved in the financial arrangements with your insurance provider. Pre-approval is needed through The Lactation Network for this type of coverage and it takes only a minute of your time. In general, this does not work for Tricare, TennCare, or Federal plans; some Cigna plans will be covered, please check your coverage with our link. If you see a small logo on your insurance card such as MultiPlan, PHCS, PNOA you will likely get coverage!
Veterans who have VA benefits, you may also get coverage through TLN; but there are a few steps. Use this link AND email Kate to inquire.
MNPS employees, use The Lactation Network for a special program your employer has with them.

OPTION 3: OUT-OF-POCKET FEES & REIMBURSEMENT
If your plan is not covered by Option 1 or 2, you may be able to get partial or full reimbursement of your lactation consultation fees by submitting receipts to your insurance company. We do not file claims with your insurance company. Reimbursement is not guaranteed. We will give you the forms necessary to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement of the cost of the consult. This does not work for TennCare plans.
An order is not needed for our office, though you will want one in order to file with your insurance. Usually, the order is obtained from baby's care provider or your OB/Midwife and is for the lactating parent.
You will have a higher likelihood of reimbursement if you call your insurance company ahead of time to request a "Gap Exception" for the specific IBCLC that you are scheduled to see. Use the form below to guide you; your insurance company will ask for a variety of codes which are on that form. After the consultation we will give you the proper forms and receipts you will need to submit for possible reimbursement.
